The leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo, has assured that the 2016 edition of Igbo day will still hold and that preparations have advanced.
The President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Professor Joe Igariwey while responding to allegation that the 2016 celebration which was stalled for nearly a decade had been cancelled, debunked such insinuation, stressing that preparations for the celebration has gone far.
Insinuations were rife that the celebration, which is barely two weeks away would not be observed this year and that no committee has been set up to coordinate it.
But reacting Prof. Igariwey admitted that though he had been indisposed, it was not a condition for postponing the ceremony.
He added: “I will be out of hospital today. I’m well and fit now. The 2016 Igbo day celebration will hold. Arrangements have gone far. Thanks for your concern’.
it was noted that Ohaneze Ndigbo leadership hard serious challenges in organising the 2015 Igbo Day celebration, and at the dying minute held a low key celebration and attributed such to the harsh socio economic and political mood of the nation.
